The Level 5 Cold Ashby Development
We are so serious about making positive changes to the way houses are built as well as reducing the residential carbon footprint, that Barry Howard Homes is building the UK’s first ecologically sound, yet cost effective residential development.
This ground breaking opportunity will see Barry Howard Homes’ Cold Ashby development achieve the UK’s first ever level 5 award from the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Located on the edge of Cold Ashby village, Northamptonshire, the pioneering development will consist of a range of new and re-developed 2 – 5 bedroom homes. Each will be designed in keeping with the traditional buildings in the village but, at the same time, keeping the impact on the local environmental to a record low.
These buildings have been expertly designed to lower the need for energy consuming services and be potential climate moderators. Those electrical and mechanical services that are essential to today’s living will meet and where possible surpass ‘good practice’ standards.
The development will be constantly reviewed to make sure renewable energy sources are in place wherever possible.
Each house will be designed and constructed with the environment at the top of the agenda, by reducing energy demand and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, using high levels of thermal insulation and low levels of air leakage. Low energy appliances, efficient energy supplies, and effective water management measures will all be in place to increase sustainability.
The homes are designed to encourage health, wellbeing and an environmentally friendly lifestyle, so each property will encompass an outside drying space, cycle storage, a home office space and recycling facilities.
Sustainable Development “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (United Nations.)
